Davis Vision, NY Jets Wives Bring Early Thanksgiving to Homeless

Second Annual Event to Feed 400 Long Islanders

PLAINVIEW, NY (Nov. 14, 2007)Davis Vision and members of the New York Jets Women's Organization (JWO) joined forces to bring an early Thanksgiving meal to 400 people at a Long Island homeless shelter on Nov. 15. Davis Vision co-sponsored the dinner with the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN), a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization on Long Island, NY, that addresses the problems of hunger and homelessness.

"For many years, Davis Vision has been partnering with the INN by donating clothing for the cold months and sponsoring a food drive for Thanksgiving," said Laura Dyer, Davis Vision assistant vice president, Strategic Events and Community Relations. "Davis Vision believes it is important to support communities where we work and do business, and this project increases our commitment to this organization."

"Last year’s event was so successful that we felt it was important to continue the tradition again this year,” said Julie Mangini, wife of Jets head coach Eric Mangini. "Without the support of Davis Vision, the JWO would not be able to do as many wonderful charitable events like this."

About Davis Vision

Davis Vision currently serves nearly 50 million members nationally and was the first vision care preferred provider organization to receive accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).  Its provider network-credentialing program has been certified by the NCQA. The company administers vision services through an extensive network of over 30,000 participating providers, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians and many of the nation’s premier retail centers.

About the INN

The not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization was founded to "feed the hungry in safe, clean, caring environments, with no questions asked."  Other goals of the organization are to provide emergency and transitional shelter for the homeless in dignified, homelike atmospheres, to explore the ways and means to establish long-term shelters and permanent, low-cost housing and to educate the public about the extent of hunger and homelessness and the needs of those affected.

The organization operates on the premise that "each of us has a duty to address the causes of poverty and injustice and to empower every human being to full participation in the community."

About the JWO

The Jets Women's Organization is comprised of the wives, fiancées and significant others of New York Jets players, coaches and select football support staff members. Founded in 2001, their mission is to build goodwill in the Tri-State community through active volunteer participation.
