Chicago Boy Scout Envisions Sight for Those in Need

Davis Vision Donates 5,000 Eyeglass Frames through VOSH

PLAINVIEW, NY (May 27, 2009) – In his quest to earn an Eagle Scout award, Chicago teenager Arturo Cisneros has a big dream of helping those in need throughout the United States and the world. Part of that dream was realized in late April when he accepted 5,000 eyeglass frames worth over $500,000 in retail value donated to the Illinois Chapter of the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) by New York-based Davis Vision, a leading national managed vision care company.

Cisneros spearheaded a drive to collect used eyeglasses starting in February. Dr. Sandra Bury, the former president of VOSH’s Illinois Chapter, worked with Cisneros to facilitate the collection of frames and lenses. Davis Vision enhanced his efforts at Visionworks in the Chicago Ridge Mall where store manager Dorothea Elders presented Davis Vision’s frame donation. All of the donated Davis Vision frames will be used for VOSH’s overseas mission work. The drive will run through May, and collection boxes are located in Chicago-area businesses, schools, Lions Clubs and VFW locations.

“Davis Vision is humbled by Arturo’s spirit to help others, and pleased we are able to help support his goal and VOSH’s mission to provide services to those without access to vision care,” said Michael Ehrle, Davis Vision’s divisional vice president of Sales.

Cisneros is a high school sophomore and a member of the St. Mary Star of the Sea Boy Scout Troop. He expressed appreciation to all involved with the project:  “Thank you, Davis Vision, for your generosity in helping VOSH, and for helping me earn my Eagle Scout rank,” he said.
