Davis Vision and Visionworld Team Up with the Minnesota Twins for Vision Clinic

Children from Local Homeless Shelter Benefit from Outreach

Minneapolis, MN (October 7, 2009) - National vision benefits company Davis Vision, a Highmark Company, hosted a vision clinic with VisionWorld and the Minnesota Twins in which local children had their vision screened free of charge.

The clinic was part of Davis Vision's Focus on AmericaSM outreach program, which targets communities in need. The children involved in the event were invited through the relationship between the Twins and the local People Serving People homeless shelter.

The participants received either a clean bill of health or a voucher for follow-up care at area VisionWorld retail stores. When redeemed the voucher entitles each child to a comprehensive eye exam and glasses. While they waited, the youngsters enjoyed giveaways and educational materials from Davis Vision.

"A single pair of eyeglasses can cost more than $300," said Michael Ehrle, Davis Vision's divisional vice president of sales. "Our program helps those in need receive vision services they otherwise would not get."

To wrap up the day each participant received a ticket to the ball game, courtesy of the Twins. They also received a food voucher from Davis Vision. Unused vouchers and game tickets were donated to the People Serving People center for the families to use.

 "Vision care is an important part of overall health," said Laura Dyer, Davis Vision's assistant vice president, community outreach and media relations. "By evaluating the vision and eye health of these children, we can initiate care for those in need immediately, helping to correct or prevent conditions that might negatively affect their vision."

Davis Vision's Focus on America SM outreach initiative offers services to individuals in need, with a focus on uninsured and underinsured children. By working with nonprofits and community-based organizations around the country, the program aims to promote the importance of proper vision care.
