Bronx Optometrist Earns Davis Vision's Top Award

Dr. Sharon L. Williams Named “Provider of the Year”

PLAINVIEW, NY (Jan. 27, 2009) – Dr. Sharon L. Williams, an optometrist practicing in Bronx, NY, and 24 other vision care providers across the nation are being recognized for outstanding performance in Davis Vision Inc.’s newly-launched provider recognition program.

Representatives from Long Island-based Davis Vision visited Primary Vision Care, Inc., the practice that Dr. Williams founded, to congratulate her as the 2008 Davis Vision Provider of the Year. Dr. Williams was ranked No. 1 in Davis Vision’s national network of 30,000 ophthalmologists and optometrists.

Dr. Joseph Wende, Davis Vision’s senior vice president of Professional Affairs and Quality Management, and Dr. Daniel Levy, assistant vice president of Professional Affairs, presented Dr. Williams with a plaque honoring her achievement; a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool; and a trip for two to the February Super Bowl XLIII game in Tampa, FL.

“Dr. Williams has demonstrated an exceptionally high level of care for all of her patients,” said Dr. Wende. “Her unflagging dedication to patient satisfaction has been documented by surveys submitted by the patients themselves. In addition, regular site visits by our Quality Assurance program representatives have consistently attested to her commitment to the highest standards of care. We are pleased to honor her as Davis Vision’s first Provider of the Year.”

Dr. Williams is an Antigua, West Indies, native who graduated in 1994 from the State University of New York School of Optometry, Manhattan. She has been practicing for 13 years and is a member of the New York Children’s Vision Coalition.

“I’m very proud to receive this tribute from Davis Vision,” said Dr. Williams. “The most important thing we do at Primary Vision Care is to treat our patients well. We also want them to receive the maximum benefit of my skills, so we get as much information as possible from them and conduct very detailed eye examinations. I thank God for my ability to do this.”

The next five highest-ranking providers were awarded a plaque and a diagnostic tool that performs fast, accurate eye-pressure readings. Nineteen other eye care professionals each received a plaque honoring their distinction as a top Davis Vision provider. All were evaluated through patient surveys and peer reviews.

“The very essence of our brand promise is to provide outstanding service and quality to our clients and members,” said Davis Vision president Steve Holden. “So many providers exemplify that spirit on the front lines each day as they serve our members. We launched our provider recognition program as a way to thank them for their commitment to high-quality service and patient care, and we plan to make it an annual event.”
