Davis Vision gives 4,000 frames to Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (May 19, 2010) - The Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute of Albuquerque, N.M. (SIPI) not only trains students to enter the field of optometry, but it also provides affordable eye care to the Albuquerque community. In an effort to help SIPI further its mission, Davis Vision recently donated 4,000 eyeglass frames.

"This is the largest donation the vision program has ever received, and we anticipate that this donation is going to help us for the next five years," said Samuel Henderson, coordinator instructor for Vision Care Technology at SIPI. "We're going to work with the Lions Club and different tribes in New Mexico and the Southwest area to help them provide affordable eye care."

The frames were donated through Davis Vision's Focus on AmericaSM community outreach program. They will be used for laboratory and dispensing classes in SIPI's opticianry program and for children and the elderly with limited resources. Frames will be provided for free, with lenses offered at a minimal cost.

SIPI's Vision Care Technology Program is designed to educate students in the vision care field as dispensers, opticians, vision care technicians or assistants. SIPI students' vision education and training is balanced with outreach to the local community providing vision services and materials to those in need.
