Davis Vision Provides Free Vision Services to New Mexico Children

Nearly 650 Uninsured and Underinsured Students
Receive Free Screenings and Eyeglasses

PLAINVIEW, NY. (Jan 7, 2010) - National vision benefits company Davis Vision brought its Focus on Americasm outreach initiative to 647 children in New Mexico recently, providing products and services to four schools and a Boys and Girls Club in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Uninsured and underinsured children and adolescents benefited from free vision screenings and received educational materials promoting the importance of proper eye care.

Students at Agua Fria Elementary School and Larragoite Elementary School in Santa Fe, and Christine Duncan Community School and The New America School in Albuquerque received vision screenings from Davis Vision volunteers over two days. Members of the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Fe also benefited from the screenings. Nearly 49% of the total number screened received a voucher for follow-up care, including an eye exam and eye glasses from a local provider.

Sheila Henke, the school nurse at Santa Fe's Agua Fria Elementary School said, "This is the best thing that ever happened to our school."

"The screenings were a huge success," said Tom Davis, Davis Vision's Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "A remarkably large part of what a child learns is visual, and these services enable the students to see the chalkboard more clearly.  Our Focus on Americasm program also teaches the kids about vision and the importance of eye health through fun, engaging ways."

Davis Vision's Focus on Americasm and Sight from Americasm outreach programs offer vision services and eyewear to individuals in need across the United States and throughout the world. Seeing clearly can make a huge difference in one's life; however, the high costs of vision exams and eyeglasses often preclude people from seeking the care they need. The program's goals also include raising awareness on the importance of eye care to help prevent future eye and overall health care problems.

To date, Davis Vision has donated over $13 million in products and services through their outreach initiatives. If you are interested in Davis Vision's Focus on Americasm vision screenings for your organization, please contact: communityrelations@davisvision.com.
