A Typical Eye Examination
Your Davis Vision Eye Examination
Your
eye examination at a Davis Vision network provider office should
be a rewarding experience. Various procedures will be performed
to assess your vision status and your eye health. The results of
the test will be reviewed by the doctor and recommendations for
eyewear or other eyecare will be discussed with you.
All Davis Vision providers are carefully screened to ensure that
they are appropriately trained and licensed to deliver quality vision
and eyecare. Each provider office is reviewed to ensure that appropriate
equipment and instrumentation is available. While the specific tests
or sequence of testing vary from one provider to another, you can
be sure that your vision and internal and external eye health will
be evaluated.

Your examination will typically begin with a detailed case history.
You will be asked to answer questions concerning your previous eyecare
and any eye or general health conditions affecting you or your family.
The clarity of your vision with or without your present eyeglasses
or contact lenses will be noted. Additionally, your eye movement
skills and coordination between the two eyes will generally be measured.
The provider will determine if a need for correction, i.e., eyeglasses
or contact lenses, exists to maximize your comfort or clarity of
vision. Separate testing may be performed at distance and near.
If a correction is needed, the findings will be compared to your
previous prescription.
The doctor will also use specialized equipment to inspect the health
of your eyes, inside and out. An illuminated microscope may be used
to observe the front and outer structures of the eye and eyelids.
Other specialized equipment will be used to look inside each eye
at the retina and other structures. It is through these procedures
that eye disorders and other general diseases such as diabetes,
hypertension, cataracts and tumors, among others, may be detected.

Additionally, in most cases one of several different methods may
be used to measure the pressure of the fluids inside the eye. This
is commonly referred to as a screening for glaucoma. Various instruments
may be used, some including a "puff" of air, others utilizing different
means to measure the pressure.
The doctor will then review the results of all the tests and measurements
before discussing them with you and providing recommendations regarding
your vision and eye health. Based on the findings, additional care
or eyewear may be recommended.
